अर्जुन विषाद योग (Arjuna Vishada Yoga)

अधर्माभिभवात्कृष्ण प्रदुष्यन्ति कुलस्त्रियः | स्त्रीषु दुष्टासु वार्ष्णेय जायते वर्णसङ्करः ||४१||

हिंदी अनुवाद: “हे कृष्ण! अधर्म के प्रबल होने पर कुल की स्त्रियाँ भ्रष्ट हो जाती हैं। हे वार्ष्णेय! स्त्रियों के भ्रष्ट होने पर वर्णसंकर (अवांछित संतान) उत्पन्न होती है।”

English Translation: When adharma predominates, O Krishna, the women of the family become corrupt. When women are corrupted, O Varshneya, unwanted progeny are born.

सङ्करो नरकायैव कुलघ्नानां कुलस्य च | पतन्ति पितरो ह्येषां लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः ||४२||

हिंदी अनुवाद: “वर्णसंकर कुलघातियों और कुल को नरक में ले जाने वाला होता है। ऐसे कुलों के पितर पिण्डदान और जलांजलि से वंचित होकर अधोगति को प्राप्त होते हैं।”

English Translation: The mixture of castes leads the destroyers of the family and the family itself to hell. The ancestors of such families fall, deprived of offerings of food and water.

दोषैरेतैः कुलघ्नानां वर्णसङ्करकारकैः | उत्साद्यन्ते जातिधर्माः कुलधर्माश्च शाश्वताः ||४३||

हिंदी अनुवाद: “कुलघातियों के इन दोषों (वर्णसंकर उत्पन्न करने वाले) से जाति के धर्म और सनातन कुलधर्म नष्ट हो जाते हैं।”

English Translation: By these evil deeds of the destroyers of the family, which cause intermixture of castes, the eternal family traditions and the dharma of the race are destroyed.

उत्सन्नकुलधर्माणां मनुष्याणां जनार्दन | नरकेऽनियतं वासो भवतीत्यनुशुश्रुम ||४४||

हिंदी अनुवाद: “हे जनार्दन! हमने सुना है कि जिनके कुलधर्म नष्ट हो जाते हैं, उन मनुष्यों का नरक में अनिश्चित काल तक वास होता है।”

English Translation: O Janardana, we have heard that those whose family traditions are destroyed dwell in hell for an indefinite period.

अहो बत महत्पापं कर्तुं व्यवसिता वयम् | यद्राज्यसुखलोभेन हन्तुं स्वजनमुद्यताः ||४५||

हिंदी अनुवाद: “हाय! कितने आश्चर्य की बात है कि हम राज्य के सुख के लोभ से अपने ही स्वजनों को मारने के लिए उद्यत होकर बड़ा पाप करने को तत्पर हैं।”

English Translation: Alas! How strange it is that we are intent on committing a great sin, being eager to kill our own kinsmen out of greed for the pleasures of the kingdom!

यदि मामप्रतीकारमशस्त्रं शस्त्रपाणयः | धार्तराष्ट्रा रणे हन्युस्तन्मे क्षेमतरं भवेत् ||४६||

हिंदी अनुवाद: “यदि धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र हाथ में शस्त्र लिए युद्ध में मुझे बिना प्रतिकार किए और शस्त्र रहित मार डालें, तो वह मेरे लिए अधिक कल्याणकारी होगा।”

English Translation: If the sons of Dhritarashtra, with weapons in hand, kill me in battle while I am unarmed and not offering resistance, that would be better for me.

एवमुक्त्वार्जुनः सङ्ख्ये रथोपस्थ उपाविशत् | विसृज्य सशरं चापं शोकसंविग्नमानसः ||४७||

हिंदी अनुवाद: “युद्धभूमि में इस प्रकार कहकर अर्जुन ने बाणों सहित धनुष त्याग दिया और शोक से व्याकुल मन से रथ के पिछले भाग में बैठ गए।”

English Translation: Speaking thus, Arjuna cast aside his bow and arrows and sat down on the chariot, his mind overwhelmed with sorrow.
